Market Recap For October 15th, 2021

Sure enough, markets moved higher on Friday. In addition, the Dow has broken to the upside of its consolidation pattern.

Although there could easily be a pullback after the past two days runup, it seems new highs are coming at some point.

Yesterday’s Sector Performance

Consumer Discretionary stocks led the way at week’s end.

Utilities fell into the red.

Five-Day Sector Performance

Finally, Energy was replaced at the top, with Materials winning out.

Communication Services are still at the bottom but trying to move up.

ETF Trade Watch

Materials Select Sector SPDR (XLB)

Communication Services Select Sector SPDR (XLC)

Stocks finally seemed to break out of their recent decline, and the clear leader was Materials. So, the XLB could be ripe for bullish trades.

It doesn’t look like a reversal to the downside is coming, but if one does, the XLC may be the best bet for short plays.

Good luck!
